10 Real Reasons Why I Keep Failing at Dieting
I've been dieting for over 10 years, and I keep failing in the same way.
I used to blame myself, thinking it was because of my weak willpower,
but since last year, I've approached things differently and wanted to share what I've learned.
1. Food Dichotomy: There are foods I think I shouldn't eat, and I regret it every day when I do.
2. Self-Blame Loop: I blame myself every time I can't stick to my diet.
3. Frequent Weight Checks: I stress over a 0.1kg change every morning.
4. Eating Too Quickly: When I eat in 5 minutes, I tend to overeat.
5. Processed Foods: Even if the calories are the same, I feel less full, which makes me eat more. It's impossible to eat less just by willpower with these foods.
6. Chronic Stress: I crave sweets a lot and end up munching on various things.
7. Lack of Sleep: I feel hungrier and eat more without realizing I'm full.
8. Extreme Calorie Restriction: It's unsustainable. It leads to binge eating and raises my weight set point, making it so much easier to gain weight.
9. Weekend Reward Binge: I can hold out for 5 days during the week, but everything collapses on the weekend. It seems like just trying to resist creates triggers.
10. Pressure to Lose Weight Quickly: The more I want to lose weight fast, the more frequent my binge eating becomes, and the yo-yo effect hits harder.
I hope this helps this summer.
After suffering from trying to control everything with willpower, I've learned a big lesson and now try to take it easy, almost like a daily mantra. 😂
